DIY - my Christmas cushion
Sewing idea for a handmade Christmas decoration, fast and cheap! Give your cushions the "X-MAS" touch! I will show you how to use double-sided Viseline Vliesofix: an iron-on paper for fabrics, often used for crafts activities. This technique will allow you to create patterns which can then be applied to your work. I introduce you to two variations of a deer available for free download below ;-)
To make your Christmas cushion
- An upholstery fabric if you want to sew a cover for your cushion. Or start from an existing cover..
- 40cm of a mismatched fabric to bring out the pattern. I chose a this Scottish polyester fabric with rhombs
- 40cm vliesofix
- 1 pair of scissors
- Sewing thread
Step 1 : prepare your pieces and shapes
Print your shape on paper at the size you want. If you like the two deer shown in the photo, I suggest you download the templates in A4 format:
You can also search for other cool designs that evoke the Christmas theme on Pinterest or Google image to download for free. Or why not draw it yourself ! Then cut out your shapes and fabric pieces (why not add a braid trim?) with your scissors...
Step 2 : Iron-on
Place the iron-on vliesofix paper on the wrong side of your fabric (the side for cutting the shapes) and activate the glue with a simple ironing stroke. About 10 seconds is enough.
Transfer your template to the iron-on and cut out your fabric shapes. All you have to do is remove the paper and iron your shape onto the fabric of your cushion.
Only need to put the cover on... Your Christmas cushion is ready !
