What is gabardine?

Gabardine is a member of the family of twill weave fabrics. With a tight weave and diagonal lines on the front, this fabric is highly prized for its strength and durability. Originally, wool gabardine was designed to make hard-wearing, waterproof canvas for suits. Today it is found woven into other compositions such as denim, viscose and cotton.
